Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism has introduced a set of measures called the ‘Safe Tourism Certification Program,’ covering a wide range of measures including transport, accommodation, facilities staff and passengers’ health condition.

International certification institutions have granted the certificate which is issued under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Its job is to monitor airline firms, airports and other transportation, lodging and food and beverage facilities meeting high-level health and hygiene requirements.

When an Indian traveler arrives in Turkey what happens?

Passenger body temperature will be tested at the airports upon arrival in Turkey. A passenger who has temperatures above 37.8 Celcius (100.4 Fahrenheit) or shows any other COVID-19 symptoms will be tested for free. If the test result is positive it will refer the passenger to a hospital. The same protocol shall also extend to all passengers in transit. If the outcome of the test is negative, the passenger will proceed with its itinerary.
Due to the test result, no Indian passenger will be deported or held in quarantine.

What happens if a successful COVID-19 Indian Tourist Test?

For passengers with positive PCR test results, trained health staff capable of responding promptly and well-equipped transfer vehicles will be ready for transportation to the health institutions at the airport. The patient is moved to the nearest health facility immediately, and his or her care starts. Notwithstanding the individual’s permission, the State does not enforce any treatment.

What about cost of treatment and health insurance?

When, upon arrival in Turkey, an Indian tourist is found to be COVID-19 positive, he or she will receive care at a hospital.

The cost of the care will be borne by its own health insurance which is also applicable in Turkey. Indian travellers can also buy medical insurance covering COVID 19 services before they arrive in Turkey. Insurance products are available for purchase:

What about Flight and Visa?

Tourism and international flights, which were suspended in Turkey since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resumed from June 15, 2020. The visa application process for Indian travellers began on June 22, 2020.

As of 10 July 2020, Turkey had officially announced its readiness to restore scheduled flights between India and Turkey. Until now, the Indian Government’s approval is awaited.
