After terror attacks last November in Paris that left 130 dead, and amid security considerations over the  approaching Euro 2016 Football Championships held in Paris, the French government launched the Population Alert and Information System (SAIP) app to send alerts and information during a terror attack.

Available on Android and iOS, the free the app can use geolocation services to send relevant updates to users concerning their immediate surroundings, as well as a brief description of what’s happening and directions on how to be safe. The SAIP app can send push notifications 15 minutes after an attack is confirmed by authorities, and won’t cause users’ phones to vibrate or emit sound.

The app does not soley warn users concerning attacks and security issues in their area, but additionally allows users to observe alerts for up to eight totally different postal codes. The SAIP app also allows users to ascertain conditions close to members of their family or friends.
